    Cookie Policy

    What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device so it can remember things between visits — for example, that you have already accepted a cookie banner, or that you have already played a particular quiz. GeoQuest Adventures uses a small number of cookies and similar browser-storage technologies, all explained below. We use them only where they are necessary, helpful for measuring how the site is used, or required by the advertising service that keeps the site free to use.

    Strictly necessary storage

We save your cookie-banner choice in your browser's local storage so the banner does not reappear on every page. We also save your quiz progress, star ratings and best scores in local storage on your own device. None of this information ever leaves your device and none of it identifies you as a person.

    Analytics cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) to count visits and to understand which pages and games are most popular, so we can prioritise the parts of the site that are most useful to children, parents and teachers. Google Analytics sets a small number of cookies (for example _ga and _ga_*) that record an anonymous identifier and basic technical information such as browser type, device type and country at country-level. IP addresses are anonymised and advertising features are turned off.

    Advertising cookies

GeoQuest Adventures shows display advertising served by Google AdSense, which is what keeps the site free. Because our content is directed at children, we have flagged the entire site as "directed to children" in Google's publisher controls. That setting disables personalised and behavioural advertising on every one of our pages, so any AdSense cookies you may receive are used only to serve contextual ads (chosen from the topic of the page) and to limit how often a given ad is shown. We have also blocked sensitive ad categories such as gambling, alcohol, dating and weapons.

You can review and control Google's advertising cookies at google.com/policies/technologies/ads/ and at aboutads.info.

How to control or remove cookies

Every modern browser lets you view, block or delete cookies for any site you visit. The "Help" menu of your browser will show you how. You can also use private/incognito browsing if you do not want cookies to be kept between sessions. Blocking analytics or advertising cookies will not stop the games and quizzes from working — the only thing you may notice is that the cookie banner reappears, because we have nowhere to remember your previous choice.
